Jonathan Nathaniel Sumpter
V
Played by David
Nickname(s): Jon, Jonny
Age: 17
Grade: Senior
Birthday: 02/13
Appearance: Jonathan
has what you would call boyish good looks. He has
smooth, pale and flawless skin and a great complexion.
He has pale ice blue eyes and a warm inviting smile that
he often uses to charm the pants off of teachers and
students alike. On top of that glorious head of his is a
thick mound of black curls. The kind of curls that
invite you to give them a gentle tug or run your fingers
through them. Unfortunately, due to frequent haircut
requests made by his parents, he often keeps his hair
short with minimal curls. His build is not that of a
typical jock. He would still be considered athletic,
with his ripped muscles and six-pack. He has nicely
shaped arms and nicely molded calves that he receives
from jogging and playing sports of all kinds.
Jonathan is usually seen wearing a T-shirt and jeans, or
some equally laid back attire. The only time he wears
his fancier clothes, is when he goes to work, or for a
special occasion. Even then, he purposely forgets the
tie and suit jacket. Even then, he purposely forgets the
tie and suit jacket. He doesn't see the point in
spending all that money on tight "girlie" clothes. He
thinks guys who were skinny leg jeans are either posers
or a little bit gay.
Personality: He’s
pretty mch a golden boy who gets along with everyone and
shows everyone respect no matter what social class. He’s
the type of friend whom you can depend on if you’re in a
jam and he’ll always tell you what you need to hear and
not what you want to. He loves to joke around with his
friends and tease the girls but he means well. One of
his flaws would be that he’s a bit of a flirt. Sometimes
he means to be and other times he doesn’t. He also has
the tendency to come off as overconfident but he has a
few people that keep his head from getting big.
He also does things to make other people happy rather
than himself. It’s not a question of him having a
backbone, it’s more of him not wanting to disappoint or
upset people. He believes that if he makes other people
happy then in time, he will be happy but that’s not the
case. His dependence on the acceptance of others has led
to several serious bouts with Clinical Depression,
something he tries desperately to hide.
When he has a passion for
something he can be quite zealous, a natural debator
he doesn't take no for an answer, often badgering you
until he gets his answer or his way. He is deeply
interested in Politics and World Events, watching BBC
world religiously, even watching MSNBC as he gets
ready for school. He is even considering deferring a
year from college to help out on some campaigns or
simply see the world. Surprisingly enough his father
is supportive of his idea.
Family: Jonathan Sumpter
IV- 50 years old "Jay" to Aurora, Jonathan's mother. He is a
gifted corporate attorney but a bit of a bumbling father. He
isn't really that great with displays of affection and praise
due to the way his father was with him. He's very conservative
and straight laced but you wouldn't have known it during his
wild days at Stanford. He's often gone during the week,
working long hours but he is beginning to realize that a life
without family isn't complete. At his own prodding he is
beginning to institute special "days" with his kids, taking
Jonathan to the driving range or to shoot some pool or even
trudging to the mall with Amalia when she is home from school.
Aurora
Sumpter- 44 years old Mother. If there was anyone born to be
in the public it was Aurora. She has a wonderfully warm and
welcoming spirit inherited from her family. Armed with an
infectious smile and a sweet spirit she often gives back to
the community, not content to sign checks and kick back on her
Jimmy Choo's. She is on various boards as well as being on the
PTA at both of her children's schools. This amazing cook is a
California native, settling into the sleepy town of Ridgefield
with Jonathan shortly after their marriage. She met "Jay" when
she was 21 year old, the daughter of a Stanford professor she
and "Jay" had a whirlwind romance which lead to her ultimately
running away with Jay when he was accepted to Harvard Law. She
loves her children fiercely and considers herself to be
"cool". Trendy but not a fashion plate.
Amalia Sumpter- 14 years
old, sister. Due to her going to school out of town Amalia is
not as close to her family but mostly her brother as she would
like. She is your typical boy crazy freshman in high school.
She is involved in many things like her mother in volunteerism
but also is fully involved in debate and ballet. She's a sweet
and quiet girl, not liking to make waves, that is until she is
around her brother Jonathan. Being only 3 years apart they
spent many hours in their home making mischief and torturing
nannies. She and Jonathan are very close and though she'd
never admit to anyone.. she admires him
He comes from a long line of Sumpters. In fact, his line
dates back to the early 1900s. His father is Jonathan Sumpter IV, which
makes him the V and the only boy. He has the burden of carrying on the
Sumpter family name. His father is an accomplished attorney who, with the
help of three other people has opened his own firm. His firm has been a
permanent part of Ridgefield for several years now. Jonathan’s mother could
be considered a housewife, but she is much more. She contributes most of her
time to society, making a name for herself by promoting women’s shelters,
orphanages etc. Finally, there is Amalia (14), Jonathan’s younger sister.
She goes to Our Lady of Lourdres All girls Prep school, It’s located just an
hour and 20 minutes outside of Ridgefield.
Job: (if
any): None
Vehicle: A 1964 cherry red
mustang he rebuilt with his father over the last year.
It's almost completed but until then he's mother let's
him use her Range Rover at all times.
History: Jonathan has lived in Ridgefield all of his
life, whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is yet to be determined.
He’s very familiar with the place and it’s people. At an early age, he
gained the reputation for being something of a prankster but it’s not all
true. Sure, he loves playing pranks but he hasn’t done half of what he was
accused of.
He was always a bit of a nerd, once getting into an argument with his
kindergarten teacher, determined to explain to her why his play doh was
"lavender" not just "purple." He made fast friends with kids despite his
braininess but never seemed to, in his mind fit in. He'd frequently go
through bouts of being alone and feeling absolutely hopeless for no reason.
His mother work call it his "Eeyore Time" due to Jonathan's glum nature.
Eventually he managed to hide it but over taxing himself, trying out for
every sport and extra-curricular activities to prove to himself and his
parents that he was "normal."
This continued right until his freshman year of Richmond, until one day in
may he simply couldn't get out of bed, he sunk into a deep deep depression,
even contemplating ending his life. His parents finally realized there was a
problem and so keep their good name from perishing, took him to a therapist
in Detroit who finally diagnosed him clinical depression. He was prescribed
anti depressants but never took them, instead discovering exercise as a way
of keeping his feelings in check, a release.
Another thing besides depression he discovered in high school was his effect
on women. A natural flirt he'd always had female friends, but it never
occurred to him that he actually had a shot with any of them. For the most
part he has done all of his dating outside of Richmond due to the nosy
student body. Some of his relationships, sexual or otherwise didn't end well
so making sure they go to different schools has been a savoir on his rep.
