SENIOR
STRESS
It is
the time of year for seniors to start worrying about what
they are going to do after high school. They have to start
applying to colleges, taking ACT’s, looking for scholarships,
and not letting senioritis get the best of them. While it
is possible that some kids know exactly what they are doing
after high school, it is probably safe to say that the majority
are still undecided or at least not 100% positive. On top
of doing well in class, being in sports, participating in
clubs and other activities, having jobs, and what ever else
students typically have to do, they also have to worry about
taking care of all these things.

The
thing that is the most stressful is finding scholarships. Seniors
all seem to have a hard time finding scholarships that apply
to them; first you have to actually be able to meet the criteria
it has for you. Then, you have to fill them out, most of them
requiring some sort of essay or other type of competition. When
asked about his approach to finding scholarships Senior Mitch
Moore said, “Take what you can get.” This my friend,
would probably be the best advice.
Another cause of senior anxiety is figuring out what to do after
graduation. You have to decide on whether or not you want to
go to college. If you are planning on going to college, you
have to decide whether you want to start out at a junior college
or a four-year school. |
Then,
there’s the decision of whether to attend a public or
private school. There’s also the choice of staying in
state or going out of state. With all of these choices it is
sometime hard to decide. While many are still contemplating
this decision, some seniors already know what they are doing.
When asked what his plans where after high school, senior Kurt
Denison replied, “I’m going to FSU with Aimee Guy
and I’m going to work at Family Video.”
While the decisions and process can be stressful, it’s
also exciting. This is their last year of high school. Some
are just having fun with it while others cannot wait for it
to be over. This chapter in their life is almost over and it
is time for them to move on in life.
